Mangal Dosha explained: what it is and what it isn’t
Mangal Dosha occurs when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the ascendant, the Moon or Venus. Traditionally it is associated with friction in marriage.
In practice, the dosha is often cancelled or greatly reduced — for example when both partners are Manglik, when Mars is in its own or exalted sign, or by certain placements of Jupiter and the Moon.
A good astrologer will assess the strength of the dosha rather than simply declaring it present or absent, and will look at the whole chart before recommending anything.
Common remedies include specific pujas, fasting on Tuesdays, and charitable acts — but the first step is always an honest reading of both charts together.
